The Fort Wayne 9-12 group will host a public forum Sept. 18 to alert the public to what it sees as the danger of new national “common core” education standards. Speakers will include Heather Crossin, a mother of four and former staffer for U.S. Rep. Dan Burton, who said the standards are not as rigorous as Indiana's previous requirements. States seeking federal “Race to the Top” funds – as Indiana has – must adopt the standards.
The group has invited more than 200 PTA presidents, school board members and candidates to the event, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Classic Café, 4832 Hillegas Road. The forum is free and open to the public.
