The Fort Wayne Newspapers Three Rivers Festival ended with a bang – lots of them. Fort Wayne Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge Dealers sponsored the fireworks finale from One Summit Square on Sunday night.

From one end of the city to another, fireworks fans watched the sky. The Courthouse Green was filled with spectators. Eugene and Sharon Jahn of Craigville, who said they’ve been coming for a few years, found their usual spot on a bench at 6 p.m.

Chris and Andrea Tellez of Fort Wayne watched with several children and friends from their spot in the courtyard. They were sad to see the 40th annual festival, which started July 12, end.

“We got to go to some events,” they said. “But we’ll miss the food.”

At about 10 p.m., the first zooming sounds shot off the building and lit up the night. For the next 20 minutes a wonderful, deafening noise captured the audience as the rockets shot through the air.

“I like how the fireworks explode and see all the colors, but the noises scare my little sister,” said Brianna Rhodes, 9, from Fort Wayne. At the end, the audience clapped in appreciation.

The pyrotechnics marked the end of this year’s festival. But it will be back. Next year’s is already scheduled for July 11-19.
