Komets sign 3, putting team at 16
Club in “good shape,” says Franke; still seek second goaltender.
From staff reports

The Komets are two months away from training camp, but they've already got a pretty good idea what their team is going to look like for the 2008-09 season.

The team signed three players Wednesday, including two more rookies. Defenseman Matthew Chromy, 24, is 6-foot-6, 250 pounds, and scored 15 goals and 46 points in 32 games with Michigan-Dearborn last season in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

Defenseman Brian Boulay, 24, is 6-1, 205 pounds and started his pro career last season with Reading of the ECHL, scoring six assists and 51 penalty minutes in 35 games.

Forward Dominic Osman, 26, scored 24 goals and 47 points last year in 60 games with New Mexico of the Central Hockey League. He's listed at 6-1, 200 pounds.

“We think Osman can score 25, 30 goals for us, Chromy is an interesting prospect because of his size and his numbers, and Boulay is an experienced rookie,” Komets General Manager David Franke said. “I know several other teams were after these guys, but we were able to get them.”

The signings give the Komets 16 players under contract, including nine forwards, six defensemen and one goaltender. That includes seven rookies and five veterans.

“I think we're in good shape,” Franke said. “We've got some good rookies signed and we've got the veterans we wanted back.”

Franke said the club still hopes to sign Mathieu Curadeau, Jake Pence, Olivier Legault and Brent Henley from last year's team. Luciano Aquino may make the American Hockey League with Norfolk, Evgeny Saidachev is signing with Bossier-Shreveport in the CHL and the Komets are still looking for a second goaltender.
