Name: Mitchell D. Stein


School: Canterbury


Achievements: Highest Achievement Award all four years; managing editor and design editor for the school newspaper sophomore through senior years; editor-in-chief of the school magazine freshman through junior years; and participant in Youth Leadership Fort Wayne his last three years. He played varsity tennis all four years, earning second team All-State and The News-Sentinel Player of the Year honors his senior year.


Activities: Active in Key Club all four years, serving as treasurer the last two years. He has participated in numerous community-service projects and events. He served the last two years as the school's student leader for the First Mentor program of Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana, and he was named First Mentor of the Year last year.


Comments: “His mastery of social studies was unrivaled in my tenure as a judge,” said Sterling Sentinel judge Andrew Mitchell.

In Canterbury's AP European History class, school social studies department chairman Eric G. Wehrli said Stein's mastery of the material was more thorough than any student in the 18 times he has taught the course.


Plans: Stein plans to begin his college career this fall at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He hopes to combine his interests in history, math and foreign language into a career in international business.
