Shaq all a-Twitter over Lakers' title win
Meanwhile in other media, the book on A-Rod is: No one cares.
of The News-Sentinel

After the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA title Sunday, former Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal sent out a “tweet” on his Twitter account.

“Congratulations, kobe, u deserve it. You played great,” Shaq wrote.

That was nice. However, Shaq still hopes to be traded to the Cavaliers so he can prevent a Kobe re-tweet.

Ten times lucky?

Former Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning said during the NBA Finals that Bryant does all the work for the Lakers, and 10-time champion coach Phil Jackson “doesn't have to do anything but call timeouts.”

Not true. Jackson regularly makes sure not to block Jack Nicholson's view on plays at the far end of the court.

Only 134,000 left to move

The new book “A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez,” has sold only 16,000 copies after an initial printing of 150,000 copies. For that kind of mild production from A-Rod, you usually have to wait until October.

Actually, there's a logical explanation for the book's poor showing: not enough pre-release publicity.

Professional preparation

University of Florida football players have been involved in 24 legal incidents since 2005, but coach Urban Meyer said his players are “by and large, a pretty good group.” That's true. In fact, at least 24 of them are prepared for future careers with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Exchange of unpleasantries

Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins was criticized by the Detroit Red Wings' Kris Draper for not shaking hands with Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom after the Penguins won the Stanley Cup.

Let's get this straight: Hockey players regularly beat the tar out of each other and hold no grudges. But an inadvertent breach of post-game etiquette is cause for outrage? What's next? “Mom, Sidney's looking at me funny!”

Cubs finally locate cursed scapegoat

The Chicago Cubs fired hitting coach Gerald Perry in an attempt to jump-start their offense, which currently includes a .246 team average. Perry was surprised by the move. He figured he had at least 100 years to get it right.

With security like this …

Spurs guard Tony Parker's autographed Michael Jordan jersey was stolen from his home. The jersey was then listed on Craigslist by a man who worked for the security company protecting Parker's home. It should be noted that the man worked in security, not intelligence.

Summer practices bites Falcons

Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith cut short one of his team's organized team activities because the team was in “the dog days of OTAs.” In a related story, the Falcons released a former quarterback to try to forget the “dog days of Michael Vick.”

Hard to believe

Sixteen athletic teams at the University of Alabama have been penalized by the NCAA for improperly acquiring free textbooks. I'm shocked. Athletes use textbooks?

Never fear, El Wingador is here

Finally, Jose Canseco's next boxing match will be against Bill “El Wingador” Simmons, a chicken-wing- eating champion. Both fighters have been known to use performance-enhancers. Canseco used steroids; Simmons used barbecue sauce.
