Heather Schoegler is all for being generous. The generosity she's referring to is information exchange on twitter.com.

After joining Twitter a few months ago, Schoegler, 29, of Fort Wayne, has become a social media guru, tweeting for her own personal account, @HSchoegler, or for her employer, @OneLuckyGuitar. She's even teaching her philosophy in “Twitorials.”

“The whole purpose of it is to be generous and share information,” she said.

Schoegler, along with 30 other Twitter enthusiasts, gathered Thursday for a “Tweet Up” at 5 p.m. at Aptera, 201 W. Main St. Tweeters assembled for free food, beer, beverages and conversation in the laid-back atmosphere that is Aptera, a software and Web design firm striving to attract young, new people to the company, which moved to its office last year.

The point of the event was to engage other business- and technology-savvy users in conversation, but not necessarily through mobile devices. Schoegler took the opportunity to find new friends and followers.

“We want it to be a place where people feel like they can come. We want to get people involved with the community. We've gotten business for being on Twitter,” said Brooke Francesi, design team leader for Aptera.

As a way to facilitate conversation, Francesi said all participants were asked to wear name tags that listed what they could teach others, with names optional.

Mike Miller, or @Munit350, just joined Twitter last week, and he can “teach golf,” according to his name tag. Miller, 30, of New Haven, said he's only tweeted a few times so far, but he came to meet people and because he's familiar with Aptera.

“I'll tweet about my golf skills,” he said, jokingly referring to himself as a PGA hopeful.

“The art of selling” is what John St. George, 37, of Fort Wayne, offered fellow tweeters. @Viper1, as he's known in the Twitter world, said he tweets about twice a day since joining a month ago.

“It's the newest thing out there, (but) I still think texting is better,” he said.

Francesi said there have been two “Tweet Ups” in Fort Wayne before, but this one has gotten more attention. If the turnout is good, Aptera would definitely have another one, she said.
