Group will hold town hall without Lugar or Bayh
The event will let people speak about economy, health care and other issues.
of The News-Sentinel

If Indiana Sens. Evan Bayh and Richard Lugar aren't going to hold town hall meetings during the congressional recess, a group called Hoosier Patriots figures it will do it for them.

The conservative group has scheduled a meeting for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Guesthouse, 1313 W. Washington Center Road, and is inviting the public to attend - even if the senators don't.

“Despite countless requests from angry voters doing a slow burn over the collapse of the economy, the insolvency of the government, the health care fiasco, the cap-and-trade mess … Bayh and Lugar have insulated themselves and remained aloof,” one of the organizers, Connie Kovas, wrote in an e-mail this week.

“Those attending will have the opportunity, afforded us by the Constitution, of redressing our grievances, albeit the ‘senators' will most likely be cardboard stand-ins. Make no mistake: Even in their unresponsive absence, Sen. Bayh and Sen. Lugar will hear us and they will feel our heat.”

Bryan Brown, a leading pro-life advocate, is also helping to organize the event.
