A funny thing happened to shooting guard Victor Oladipo on his way to visiting Notre Dame - he bagged it in favor of being an Indiana Hoosier.
Oladipo, a 6-4 shooting guard out of DeMatha High School near Washington, D.C., orally committed to IU after a three-day visit to Bloomington this past weekend. Credit the input of Hoosier freshman guard Maurice Creek, a friend who is also from the Washington, D.C., area and who pushed all things Cream ‘n Crimson.
Oladipo is rated No. 133 nationally by Rivals.com, a national Internet recruiting service. Scout. com, another Internet recruiting service, rates Oladipo at No. 48.
Oladipo was strongly considering Notre Dame and had set up a visit before deciding that Tom Crean's Hoosier program was the best fit for him.
Marquette and Xavier had also offered scholarships.
IU also is looking at another DeMatha player, point guard Quinn Cook, who is one of the top players in the class of 2011.
Oladipo, who attended IU's football victory over Eastern Kentucky on Thursday night, is the second player to orally commit for the class of 2010. Forward David Williams from Florida had committed earlier. He is not rated.
Players can't officially sign until November.
