Art Saltsberg has helped give his successor a very busy schedule.

Fort Wayne Sports Corp. has announced Craig Scully will take over from Saltsberg as the group's new president. Scully, who had been Saltsberg's vice president during a two-year term, was selected during the group's monthly meeting last week. He'll officially take over during the November meeting.

Sports Corp. started in 1990 as a way to facilitate bringing new professional teams to town, advising potential owners and facilitating meetings with local officials.

“One thing I want to continue is to build on our support of bringing events into the city,” Scully said. “We'd like to do more with the IHSAA in this area. I have a passion for youth sports because they were very influential to me growing up, and I'd like for my kids to have the same chances. I'd really like to be more of a central spot for parents to be able to go to find out what kind of sports opportunities exists for their kids.”

Scully, 39, is a partner and mechanical engineer with Design Collaborative. A native of Manchester, Mich., and a graduate of Michigan State, he moved to Fort Wayne in 1992, and he and his wife, Wendy, have five children ranging in age from 1 to 12. Scully has been a member of the Sports Corp. for seven years.

Tiffany Gooden of Barnes and Thornburg will be the group's new vice president, Greg Craghead of Indiana Tech will continue as treasurer and Clair Knapp of BKD LLP CPAs and Advisors remains as secretary.

During Saltsberg's tenure, Sports Corp. completed work on the Sports Heritage Project, placing video kiosks at Fort Wayne International Airport and Memorial Coliseum; helped found the Jason Baker Football Camp; and attracted next year's IHSAA girls basketball state finals and the NCAA men's hockey regional. The group also was involved with founding the Fort-4-Fitness event last year and works with the Eric Wedge Baseball Camp.

“Our main goal when I took over was to try to and give the Sports Corp. a little bit more of a presence in Fort Wayne,” said Saltsberg, an advertising executive with Federated Media. “I think we succeeded in doing some of that.”

Sports Corp. also recently sponsored the Rod Woodson Celebration during the Three Rivers Festival at Parkview Field and helped host the United States Golf Association State Team Championship at Sycamore Hills Golf Club.
