Construction could begin today on a 1,476-foot public road bisecting part of a $14 million ice rink project, according to Frank Suarez, City Utilities and Public Works spokesman. The 22-acre site is flanked by Wells Street, Fernhill Avenue and Lima Road.
The Board of Public Works on Wednesday approved a special street permit, about six weeks after City Council voted 7-1 to use $250,000 in CEDIT funds to construct the 36-foot wide, three-lane thoroughfare and a 10-foot concrete walk on the east side of the road as part of the Pufferbelly Trail project.
The road bisects the development site from Fernhill to the entrance of Glenbrook Commons, which already intersects with Lima at a three-way stoplight.
Three Sheets Development is scheduled to finish building a three-sheet ice rink, 200-seat restaurant, pro shop and 13 locker rooms in November. The rink is part of a larger development that will also have a $6 million, 89-room Town Place Suites by Marriott, slated to open in the spring.
