Officials at Meijer have decided they can accommodate the crowd and scene likely to occur when Sarah Palin, the Republican candidate for vice president last year, comes to Fort Wayne for a book signing.
The company confirmed Monday that Palin has the go-ahead to visit the Meijer store at 10301 Maysville Road on Nov. 19. Palin, former governor of Alaska, will be here for a book signing as part of the promotional tour for her book, “Going Rogue.”
Meijer spokesman Frank Guglielmi on Monday outlined the procedure the store has planned to accommodate people who want to see Palin during her noon-3 p.m. book signing:
♦Beginning two hours before the signing begins, customers who have a Meijer receipt for Palin's book can get a wristband, assuring them places in line to have their books signed.
♦The first 1,000 eligible customers who line up will receive wristbands. Guglielmi said Meijer would not guarantee that people lining up to see her beyond those first 1,000 will have their books signed.
♦Palin will sign only books purchased at Meijer.
♦Each customer with a wristband can have up to two books signed.
♦“Going Rogue” will go on sale Nov. 17.
♦Palin will not pose for photographs.
Palin came to Fort Wayne in October 2008, while she was on the ticket with Arizona Sen. John McCain. That race was won by Barack Obama, who is the nation's 44th president.
