Former Indiana University guard A.J. Ratliff was the final player cut by the Mad Ants when coach Joey Meyer finalized the 10-player roster required by the NBA D-League.
Meyer said trimming the roster is the toughest part of his job.
“Some of it is a numbers game,” Meyers said. “They've been great, they've worked their tails off, but they may not be good enough or there may be somebody else in that position. It's not fun.” Meyer said a player's release isn't necessarily the end of the road.
“Guys can be picked up by somebody else and be real good,” he said.
The Ants' 10-man roster includes four players from last season: Ron Howard, DeWitt Scott, Anthony Kent and Sean Sonderleiter. Kent and Sonderleiter are battling, along with former Kentucky player Jared Carter, to fill the five (or center) spot vacated by Chris Hunter's departure to the NBA.
The final roster includes three ex-Notre Dame players in Rob Kurz, Kyle McAlarney and Ryan Ayers; former Dayton player Andres Sandoval; and former Detroit Mercy guard Brandon Cotton. Cotton came to the Ants through open tryouts.
