Restaurant News: Stock up for Super Bowl
of The News-Sentinel

Need help with food for your Super Bowl party? These businesses can help:

♦Albright's Meats and Deli, 4924 S. Calhoun S., is selling chicken wings for $24.99 for 50 and $39.99 for 100. Choose from mild, medium or hot Buffalo, barbecued or breaded.

Meatballs are $22.99 for 50 and $34.99 for 100. Deli sides also are available. Albright's is closed on Sundays, so items for the big game will need to be picked up Saturday. To place an order, call 456-9009 at least a day in advance. See Albright's menu at www.albrightsmeats.com.

♦Waynedale Bakery, 2610 Lower Huntington Road, has Colts and Saints iced sugar cookies, $8 a dozen; ranch-and-cheddar cheese balls covered in crushed pecans, $6 a pound; cocktail buns, $2.75 a dozen; horseshoe-shaped white or chocolate cakes, $20; and football-shaped cakes, white or chocolate iced in chocolate with Super Bowl logos, $22 for 1/4 sheet cake, $35 for 1/2 sheet cake. ♦Hall's Catering and Hall's Takes the Cake also have some Super Bowl specials. Order any size cake decorated with your team's logo and get 25 percent off your order.

Hall's Catering is offering 75-cent jumbo wings (minimum order of 20, carryout only). For $6.99 plus tax per person, you get a decorated cake and a choice of three items from a selection of 11. For an extra buck, it will come with paper service for a minimum of 15 orders. It can be picked up – or delivered for an additional $26. Call 747-0767 for more information.

♦Downtown Pizza, 534 W. Berry St., will offer the following specials 3 p.m. until halftime on Super Bowl Sunday: one large pizza with one topping, $9.99; 30 wings, $15.99; two large pizzas with two toppings and 15 wings, $25.99. Delivery is available. Phone: 424-2030.

♦The Moosewood Smoke House, 5755 St. Joe Center Road (485-2121), and the Lucky Moose, 622 E. Dupont Road (490-5765), are offering carryout specials on Super Bowl Sunday. A full rack of ribs is $9.95; one pound of pulled pork is $4.95; regular wings are 50 cents each; and boneless wings are 30 cents each. For large quantities, order in advance.

The Lucky Moose is also offering an omelet station 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 7. Both restaurants will close at 5 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday so employees can finally have their Christmas party.

♦Dicky's Wild Hare, 2910 Maplecrest Road, is offering a 15 percent discount for big carryout orders of pulled pork, ribs and sides for Super Bowl Sunday, but the orders must be placed by Friday. Dicky's is closing at 9 p.m. Sunday. Phone: 486-0590.

Toscani specials

Toscani Pizzeria, 120 W. Wayne St., is offering a “Super Sunday” sandwich special all day on Sundays in February. Buy one full sandwich, get one for half-price (equal or lesser value), carryout or dine in.

♦On Valentine's Day, Toscani is offering a dinner special for two: two pasta dinners, including a mini house salad, breadsticks and two glasses of wine, for $25. Make reservations by calling 423-6706.

Blues and soul

This sounds like fun: a Blues and Soul Food Bash that will benefit the League for the Blind and Disabled.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Arts United Center, 303 E. Main St. Chicago blues harmonica legend Bill Lupkin and his band will provide the music.

C & R Soul Food from Indianapolis will provide the food. The menu includes turkey Creole, lemon-lime chicken, collard greens with smoked turkey, yams, rice, pound cake, peach cobbler and cornbread.

Tickets are $10 and available at the League for the Blind and Disabled, 5821 S. Anthony Blvd., (phone 441-0551), and online at www.the-league.org and www.fortwaynebluesbash.com.

Dash-in added

The Dash-in, 814 S. Calhoun St., has been added to the Dine & Ride program, which provides transportation between downtown restaurants and the following events at the Embassy Theatre: the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Masterworks and Pops series, and Broadway at the Embassy shows.

Dine at the Dash-in before the show and then hop aboard a bus to be dropped off at the Embassy's front doors. After the concert, a bus will take you back to the restaurant. This service is free. Buses run every 15-20 minutes beginning an hour and 15 minutes before show time.

Hall's Tavern appetizer deal

Hall's Tavern at Coventry, 5745 Coventry Lane, is selling half-price appetizers and desserts after 8 p.m. Appetizers include Maryland crab cakes, bacon-wrapped barbecued shrimp, deep-fried pickle spears, Coventry-style wings and more.

The dessert menu features Chef Mike Newsome's flavored crème brulees, Sweet Street pie and Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes. The Tavern also has expanded its selection of single-malt Scotch and micro-brewed beers.

Chocolate Day

The Peony Tea House, 503 W. Wayne St., is planning a Chocolate Day for Feb. 20 featuring a special lunch for $15.12 (including tip and tax). It will be open Feb. 15, Presidents Day, for lunch, and will have a special treat Feb. 16 for Mardi Gras. Call 426-4832 for reservations.

Valentine's dance

Appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks will be served at Gethsemane Lutheran Church's second annual Valentine's Dance. It will be 8-11 p.m. Saturday at the church, 1505 Bethany Lane (on Clinton Street north of Washington Center Road). Donations will be accepted. Call the church at 483-1813 and leave a name and number in the party. Proceeds will fund the church's free Wednesday evening meals.

Cooking class

Chef Josh Farmer from Biaggi's will present a Chef's Table Cooking Class at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Cindy Friend Lifestyle Studio, 4203 W. Jefferson Blvd. Space is limited to 16 guests.
