Community support: $300K gift to NIPR
Major grant to NIPR

The Madge Rothschild Foundation was scheduled to present a donation Tuesday of $300,000 to Northeast Indiana Public Radio.

The donation will be used to support general operations of NIPR's stations, WBOI, 89.1-FM, which provides news and jazz programming, and WBNI, 94.1-FM, which provides classical music programming, NIPR announced in a news release.

Rothschild, who died in 2005, set up her foundation to support nonprofit organizations in the Fort Wayne area, the news release said. She was an avid public radio listener.

The donation “comes at a time when we are in need of special support from our community,” Joan Baumgartner Brown, NIPR general manager, said in the news release. “It is of a size that makes a unique difference in our operations, and it serves as a signal to the community that we are worthy of such significant support.”
