Friday, November 18, 2011 - 7:30 am

IPFW bolstered its men's tennis program Thursday with the addition of one of the Midwest's top players.

Jeremy DePree signed a national letter of intent earlier this week and will join the Mastodons program next autumn.

“Jeremy has a great all-around game," IPFW coach Eric Burns said. "We feel he can really help our team as we continue looking for the best players with high character to help lead our team to a conference title."

The Holland, Mich., native is a senior at Zeeland East High School. He is a two-time team captain and set a school record for most overall wins with a record of 113-12.

He is ranked No. 111 in the Midwest in boys 18 singles and has reached as high as No. 88 in boys 16 singles.

DePree qualified for the Midwest Closed (2011), received All-Conference for the OK Green (2011, 2010, 2009) and won conference at the No. 1 singles position (2011) and at No. 2 (2010, 2009).

He has also excelled in the classroom, where he has a 3.98 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and is ranked in the top 10 of his class.

“We are excited to welcome him to the team," Burns said.
