Restaurant news: Where to dine on Christmas Day

Looking for a place to eat Christmas Day? Here are some options:•Fort Wayne Marriott, 305 E. Washington Center Road, 484-0411: A breakfast buffet will be available 7-9:30 a.m., and a holiday buffet will be available 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Christmas Day.

On the buffet: prime rib, ham, crab and shrimp-stuffed salmon, chicken, sides, cold seafood station, salads, breads and desserts. Cost: $30 adults; $15.95 children ages 5-12; and free children ages 4 and younger. Reservations are required.

•IHOP restaurants will be open part of Christmas Day as follows: 6 a.m.-2 p.m. at 6839 W. Jefferson Blvd. and 4403 Coldwater Road; 7 a.m.-2 p.m. at 1535 W. Washington Center Road.

•Both Great Wall restaurants, at 3824 W. Jefferson Blvd. in Parkwest Plaza (phone: 432-8258) and in Pine Valley shopping center, 10264 Coldwater Road (497-8889) will be open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Christmas Day.

•China Palace, 5810 Bluffton Road, will be open 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Phone: 747-0370.

•House of Hunan, 5626 Coldwater Road, will be open 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and 11:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Phone: 482-9402.

•Yen Ching, 6410 W. Jefferson Blvd., in Covington Plaza, will be open 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. for lunch Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and 4:30-9 p.m. for dinner Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Phone: 436-7788. Reservations are being accepted.

•Asakusa Japanese Restaurant, 6224 Lima Road, will be open 11:30 a.m.-9:50 p.m. Christmas Eve and 4:30-8:50 p.m. Christmas Day. Phone: 490-6888.

•Wu's Fine Chinese Cuisine, 4411 Coldwater Road, will be open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Phone: 483-0899Liberty Diner, 2929 Goshen Road, will be open 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Christmas Eve and closed Christmas Day. It will be open 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m. New Year's Eve and 7 a.m.-10 p.m. New Year's Day. Phone: 484-9666.Honey on the Table has opened at 2461 Hobson Road. The café serves gourmet sandwiches, soups and salads. The gourmet market sells pastas and pasta sauces, coffees and teas, pancake and waffle mixes, and more. The café also can prepare gift baskets and offers catering services. Hours: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. The restaurant was founded by Timothy and Nattana Scherer, who have experience in the food and restaurant industry. Nattana Scherer grew up in Thailand helping her parents with cooking and assisting at her mother's restaurant.

She moved to the United States in 2000, and became a U.S. citizen in 2005. She manages the restaurant and is head chef. Tim Scherer has 26 years of experience working in local restaurants.

The menu features Thai foods including rice and noodle dishes, curried combos with shrimp and chicken, 21 vegetarian entrees made with tofu, and a variety of meat and fish choices. The restaurant offers sit down and carryout options.

Hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday. The restaurant is closed on Monday. No reservations or minimum group numbers are required for these days only. Tours are $5 per person, with a $5 rebate off a purchase of $10 or more.Congratulations to University of Saint Francis students Grace Geha and Drew Sery, whose business project, Gracey's Cookies, won the fifth annual Keith Busse School of Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership Business Plan Competition.

The pair plans to take the business plan to the next step.

“Some ideas I have are starting a Facebook page to get the name out, and working with the contacts I gained at the end of the night of the competition,” Geha said in a news release.•All three Bengino's Pizzas apparently have closed; the phones are disconnected to all three locations.
