On Zoo Day this Wednesday, Kroger and Scott's stores will donate 3 percent of sales to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo.
Now through May 19, make a donation at the checkout and “vote” for your favorite animal. Bill the lion, Tengku the orangutan, and Jelani the giraffe are competing for your vote!
On May 19, receive one free child zoo admission per paying adult with a Kroger or Scott's receipt dated May 16.
Thank you to Kroger and Scott's for being an outstanding community partner and donating more than $1.4 million since Zoo Day began in 1993.
Dingo pups make headlines again
The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo's seven adorable dingo puppies were listed among the 35 Cutest Zoo Babies by Budget Travel magazine this week (http://www.budgettravel.com/feature/family-travel-advice-see-the-cutest-zoo-babies-2012,8532), and the magazine recommended the zoo as a great destination for families.
Our dingo pup is on slide 18. We're thrilled to share the pups with the world! So far they've appeared on TODAY.com, the Toronto Star, and in many regional media outlets.
For all our dingo fans, we've created an ID sheet that shows each pup's photo, name, and gender. Print a copy (www.kidszoo.org/pdfs/dingo_puppy_ID_sheet.pdf) for your next zoo visit and see if you can identify each pup! (Remember, not all pups may be in the exhibit each day.) Don't wait too long to check out these energetic youngsters: Like all babies, they are growing up too fast.

Celebrate MOM on Mother's Day, May 13
Mother's Day is a great day to treat mom with a special family outing to the zoo. It's also a chance to share information on MOM - Missing Orangutan Mothers. From 11 AM- 3 PM, members of the Little Turtle Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) will share information on the plight of wild orangutan mothers and babies.
Orangutan mothers and babies have an incredibly close relationship. Their mothers teach everything about survival in the forest before the youngsters set out on their own. Because of the growing demand for palm oil, though, more and more orangutan mothers are being killed every year on the Indonesian islands of Borneo and Sumatra.
At the MOM event at the entrance to the Indonesian Rain Forest, look for activities and information on how you can help wild orangutans.
