Stop teen suicide

There should be a greater awareness of teen suicide. The United States had an 8 percent increase in teen suicide in the last 15 years.

Suicide affects many U.S. families. Teen suicide is the third-leading cause of death in 15- to 25-year-olds, and the sixth in 5- to 14-year-olds. Suicide can lead to depression in the many peers and families of the victims.

There are many things that can cause teens to commit suicide. Two main causes are stress and depression. Ninety-five percent of victims have a psychological disorder when they die. Teens face many of these things every day.

Any teen can be affected by suicide. Girls will talk twice as much or more than boys about suicide. Boys will commit suicide four times more than girls would. No one should have to suffer through suicide.

Teen suicide needs to be observed more. Should more be done to prevent teen suicide?

$Trillion deficit man

(The website) www.treasurydirect.gov, located under “The Debt to the Penny and Who Holds It,” does, indeed, give this information under the category or metric “Total Public Debt Outstanding.”

At the end of fiscal year 2007, this number is given as $9,007,653,372,262.48. At the end of fiscal year 2008, this number was $10,024,724,896,912.49. This was George Bush 2’s last fiscal year. Taking the difference, we see that the total deficit run up by Bush 2 in his last fiscal year was $1,017,071,524,649.92. How about that: The first American president to pile $1 trillion of debt in a single fiscal year on America’s young people when the Republicans claimed we were in a booming economy was in fact George Bush 2. It wasn’t Barack Obama.

Funny, I didn’t hear Rush Limbaugh and other Republicans whining and ranting then. Thus an axiom of American politics is proved once again: The Republicans are hard-line deficit hawks — only if there is a Democrat in the White House.

Street repair needed

Per letter from Susan J. Kain:

I agree with Tom Smith, the windfall funds should be used for street repair and improvement.

One of the improvements badly needed is Elwood from Trier Road to Fair Lane Pass. This street is the main street to Snider High School, Glenwood Park Elementary and Lane Middle School. Sidewalks along this street would improve the safety of the many children who now walk in the street.

The auto traffic is extremely heavy because it is directed to Snider along this route. During the winter months visibility is very poor because it is still dark. I hope that this problem will be addressed before someone’s child is injured or worse.

Concerned for the children!

Know the candidates

Yes, this is a free country, and I am thankful we can vote for whomever we wish.

But did you really mean to vote for an unemployed candidate who has admitted that he spends his time drinking beer and watching porn?

Please research the candidates before you cast your vote! I was shocked and dismayed to see that the candidate I am referring to came in second in a field of several.

I cannot believe all of his votes came from people who knew who they were really voting for. Just my opinion — it’s a free country and you have every right to vote for whomever you choose.

Thanks, post office

Cheers to the exceptionally kind and helpful post office agent on Independence Drive. He helped me to locate my appointment site by sharing his cellphone to get the needed, but missing, correct address. His patient understanding of my dilemma was deeply appreciated.
