The reader who does not like Medicare, Social Security, etc., is just very rich or very crazy. The county just said its medical costs were so much that it had to use the rainy day fund for employees' health coverage. Those programs are all needed … .

So you don't like it when someone buys a $20 million condo in New York. Get to school, earn a diploma, and then work your butt off so you can get rich … .

The Republican Party has been hijacked by right-wing radicals, a.k.a. the Tea Party. … Don't let them do this. Vote in November.

President Obama is pandering to every special-interest group he can find in exchange for votes.

Hard to believe this group (Catholic bishops) is criticizing the Girls Scouts when they should be cleaning up their own houses.

The black market for illicit drugs created by America's drug war has gifted billions of dollars to murderous criminal organizations throughout the world.

The United States has 5 percent of the world's population, but has (nearly) 25 percent of the world's prison population. So much for that claim of being a “free country.”

OK, so I see a man huffing and puffing pulling his daughter in a wagon. I look at the daughter, and she's extremely overweight. Couldn't have been more than (age) 7. Unless she couldn't walk for some reason, this is not doing her any favors. Kids need to be moving!

I feel Indiana's rush to open charter schools could have an unusual consequence. A Muslim Imam from Turkey has opened 27 charter schools in the Midwest and spent $150 million in 26 states. Sounds like the schools are doing a great job, but what could be his underlying motive?

Mostly Republicans fought against closing rural, inefficient post offices. They blocked cuts in defense spending. They are fighting against ending farm subsidies. So much for balancing the budget — hypocrites.

I wonder what kind of a bonus the CEO of Chase Bank got for his “mistake”? Seems like CEOs of big business make errors and get paid for them — like the big Wall Street failure.

Price of oil is $94 a barrel (on a recent day). Down about $10. Great, huh? No, gas prices went from about $3.63 last night to $3.89 this morning! Price of oil is significantly lower, but gas price continues to only fluctuate about 20 cents! Some rich people are playing games with consumers!

I would guess that Mark Souder is right when he said in his editorial page guest column on May 15 that the U.S. population wants a politician to be partisan (as in standing for his/her principles, such as — hmm, being recognized as Mr. Morality, in the flesh as it were)

To the person ranting about bankruptcy. Not everyone who files bankruptcy does so lightly. … I didn't want to go the bankruptcy route but had no choice. In the future, please do not lump everyone in the same basket. All of our stories are different.

I can see why Burmese translators are hard to find … . I called FWPD (Fort Wayne Police Department) for fluent Burmese willing to help, but they couldn't navigate the system. I kept getting transferred to other departments … .

To the person who rants about the drug war: I've got news for you. The corrections industry employs more people than the auto industry. We need those jobs. Besides people who use and sell drugs are smelly, evil lowlifes.
