Critical and creative thinking have paid off for the Popping Pandas team at St. Jude Catholic School.
The team recently placed second in the state Destination Imagination (DI) competition, and earned the right to advance to the DI Global Finals Wednesday through today in Knoxville, Tenn., a school news release said.
St. Jude team members are fifth-graders Ana Pjanic, A.J. Brandell, Abbie Gillig and Alyssa Ankenbruck; fourth-grader Tucker Ankenbruck; third-grader Nick Till Anglin; and first-grader Mia Soleil Ankenbruck.
More than 8,000 students representing 1,200 teams advanced to the Global Finals, the news release said.
The Popping Pandas will compete in the challenge called “Coming Attractions,” which requires team members to use science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills along with improvisation, theater arts, writing, project management, communication, innovation, teamwork and community service, the news release said.
