The Scott's store at 3105 N. Anthony Blvd. is still closed, but Kroger officials say they expect to decide whether to reopen it by the end of next week.
“We have not yet made a final decision regarding required structural repairs as we await additional information from engineers and other professionals,” said Kroger Central Division spokesman John Elliott in a news release today. “We hope to reach a decision regarding the building itself by the end of next week.”
The store was closed May 17 after what Kroger called a “routine inspection” revealed a structural problem which the company has not described. Kroger also said all perishable food has been safely moved to nearby Kroger or Scott's locations. Some non-perishable food also has been transferred by Kroger or its suppliers, under the supervision of engineering and safety personnel.
“Whether the store on North Anthony is able to reopen or not, no Kroger associates in the Fort Wayne region will lose their jobs as a result. All associates from the North Anthony store have been temporarily reassigned to other locations,” the company said Thursday.
The pharmacy in an adjacent building remains open. It also includes the store's health and beauty and liquor departments.
