Man's death in garage fire ruled accidental

Friday, June 1, 2012 - 7:47 am

The death of a man found Wednesday in a burning garage has been ruled accidental by the Allen County Coroner's Office.

The autopsy was conducted Thursday. According to a news release from the coroner's office, the victim was a male who succumbed to thermal burns and asphyxia due to smoke. The name or age of the victim has not been released.

According to a release from the Fort Wayne Fire Department, firefighters responded at 12:09 p.m. Wednesday to 2903 Andre Lane.

There, they discovered an attached garage engulfed in flames.

Crews were able to push the fire away from the victim to render care but found the victim was already dead, according to a fire department report. At the same time the crews were working to extinguish both the garage and the fire's extension into the home.

No one else was found inside the structure. The other occupant of the home had gotten out before firefighters arrived, according to the report.

The fire was contained and extinguished; the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
