Auburn Police: Man dies after beating

Autopsy might determine if it played role in death

Saturday, June 2, 2012 - 7:17 am

Detectives from the Auburn Police and Indiana State Police Departments are investigating the death of a 45-year-old man after a fight.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Bryan Avenue in the West Edge Mobile Home Park for a reported battery Thursday evening, according to a police news release. They were told that both people involved had separated and were no longer fighting.

Before police arrived, one of the men involved had allegedly collapsed onto the ground. DeKalb EMS and Auburn Fire Department members arrived and began treating the man before taking him to DeKalb Health where he was pronounced dead, according to the release.

The cause of death has not been determined as of midmorning Friday. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday morning at the St. Joe Forensic Center to determine if the man's injuries during the fight contributed to his death, according to the release.

The second person involved was found in the mobile home park and taken to the hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries, according to the release.

No charges have been filed in the case and names are being withheld pending notification of family members of those involved.
