Peyton Manning's PeyBack Foundation has awarded a grant to the local World Baseball Academy for its program working with at-risk young people.
Manning's not-for-profit foundation awarded $2,500 to the WBA for its Fort Wayne RBI Program. The RBI Program (named for Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) allows participants to play baseball under the direction of WBA coaches for three days a week in June and July. This summer, scholarships will be awarded for additional instruction for some RBI participants.
“This generous $2,500 grant will go toward RBI scholarships,” WBA executive director Caleb Kimmel said. “Earlier this year, WBA supporters donated more than $12,000 to kick off the scholarship fund. These resources will have long-term impact as young people gain both an athletic and mentoring experience through the RBI Program.”
The World Baseball Academy is based out of the ASH Centre, 1701 Freeman St.
The PeyBack Foundation was established in 1999 by Manning, then the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts. It was designed to assist programs helping to offer growth and opportunities for at-risk children. Manning is now playing for the Denver Broncos.
The PeyBack Foundation has donated more than $6 million through grants and programs.
