Vera Bradley's 19th annual charity golf and tennis tournament raised more than $1 million for breast cancer research, the company said.
Almost 600 participants and 300 volunteers came together for the four-day Vera Bradley Classic, touted as the nation's largest women's amateur golf and tennis tournament, according to a Vera Bradley news release.
"To raise more than $1 million for the cause this year inspires our hope that a cure is within reach," said Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, co-founder of the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.
The money will go toward breast cancer research at Indiana University's Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, and nationally ranked cancer center, the news release said. The Vera Bradley Foundation has raised a total of nearly $16 million in the last 19 years, the release said.
Based in Fort Wayne, Vera Bradley makes a signature line of bright, floral-patterned luggage, purses, handbags and other items marketed to women.
