“Run, jane, run” returns June 15-16 with a three-sport event consisting of golf, a walk/run and volleyball.
The Women's Bureau brought “jane” back with a nine-hole golf scramble three years ago after a long absence. It is expanding the popular event this year after many requests from the public and participants.
At one time, the Women's Bureau fundraiser was an 11-day, 19-sports festival that attracted 3,000-plus participants to Fort Wayne each September.
“Run, jane, run” was incorporated as a separate nonprofit agency in 1984 and, over the next 20 years, grew into one of the largest amateur multisport events for women in the nation, with franchises run by nonprofits in South Bend, Grand Rapids, Louisville, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Tulsa and Englewood, N.J.
This year there will be nine-hole Florida Scramble on June 15 at the Orchard Ridge Country Club for $65 per golfer. On June 16, there will be a 5K walk/run at the Public Safety Academy for $25 per person and a volleyball tournament at the River City Complex Beach for $15 per player .
