AUBURN — A former volunteer firefighter from northeastern Indiana has been sentenced to a year in prison and two years in a community correction program for starting a fire in a neighbor's cabin.
A DeKalb County judge also sentenced 25-year-old Lee Yoder of Spencerville to five years on probation.
The Star of Auburn reports that Prosecutor ClaraMary Winebrenner said during Monday's court hearing that Yoder likes to light fires and fight fires to impress people. Winebrenner also said Yoder admitted to starting other fires, but two other arson counts were dismissed because the victims didn't want to proceed.
Yoder maintained he was innocent.
Authorities say he started the cabin fire in the rural area near Spencerville about 15 miles north of Fort Wayne.
