Guest columnist leads people from truth
On May 24, Judith A. Cox wrote a guest column for the editorial page. She describes herself as “simply a 70-year-old lifetime Catholic.” Sounds like someone you can trust to explain what the Catholic Church really needs to be about, doesn’t she?
From Cox’s prior letters to the editor, I know she is against the all-male priesthood and has little regard for papal authority. With her latest letter, she clearly shows she is a dissenting activist who openly speaks out against teachings of the Catholic Church.
In her column, Cox calls contraception an insight from God and in vitro fertilization a special gift from God. Both contraception and in vitro are grave, immoral acts because they separate the procreative act from the unitive act of marriage and can cause the death of a newly conceived human life.
Cox states that 99 percent of Catholic childbearing couples contracept. This statement is patently false. She says that couples rightly use their consciences to decide to contracept and, out of context, quotes the Second Vatican Council to bolster her false belief that consensus decides morality. Cox needs to contemplate this quote from Vatican II: “In forming their consciences the Christian faithful must give careful attention to the sacred and certain teaching of the Church. For the Catholic Church is, by the will of Christ, the teacher of truth.” (Decree on Religious Liberty).
Judith, in charity I say to you by your letters to the editor you are leading people away from the truth of the Catholic Church. I will stand in defense of our faith, our Church and our Holy Father. I continue to pray for you regularly with the hope that you will return to full communion with the Catholic Church that Christ himself called you into.

Water more carefully
Why doesn’t the city use its own advice when it comes to watering?
It is well-known watering early in the morning and late in the evening is the most efficient use of water, yet I see the lilies on Main Street being watered during the hot noon hour, the soccer fields being watered through the hot afternoon, different city park flowerbeds all over town being watered during the hottest part of the day. A lot of this water is just evaporating, wasting a valuable commodity. And they want to raise our price?
A lot of the city parks are on the rivers, so why don’t they pump water straight from the river to water soccer fields and such instead of wasting thousands of gallons of precious drinking water, especially with a potential drought knocking on our door.

Pass it on
Over the years, many people have made nice comments about things we do in our neighborhood and it has encouraged us to do more. With that being said, we have this summer’s top question: “Do you want to help make our communities beautiful and feel good about yourself at the same time?”
With the summer’s offerings about to explode in color and design, we would ask that if you see someone planting flowers (not us), working on their house or just making their area a little nicer, that you slow down and tell them, “Nice job.” Not only is it a compliment, it is also encouragement for them to want to do more. Not only will it make their day and give them encouragement, it will also make you feel like a million bucks, too. Pass it on, Fort Wayne!
