Boilermakers will host a pair of unique events this summer

Friday, June 8, 2012 - 5:40 am

For the basketball fan that simply can't wait for the 2012-13 men's basketball season, Purdue is taking steps to address your passion.

The Boilermakers' men's basketball program announced today that it will be hosting a pair of unique events on August 4 at Mackey Arena.

Purdue will host an alumni game at 2 p.m. on Keady Court, which will be followed by an intrasquad scrimmage with the 2012-13 team, which will be in preparation for an August trip to Italy.

“We're thrilled to be able to hold these two games this summer,” Purdue coach Matt Painter said in a release. “We're in a unique situation with the 10 practices we have to prepare for our Italy trip, and we're able to use one of those practices for the intrasquad scrimmage."

The alumni game is set to tip off at 2 p.m. and players expected to participate include Brian Cardinal, Tarrance Crump, Carson Cunningham, Keaton Grant, Marcus Green, Matt Kiefer, Chris Kramer, Troy Lewis, Kenneth Lowe, Todd Mitchell, Bobby Riddell, Ryne Smith, David Teague and Mark Wohlford.

Purdue fans will also catch their initial glimpse of the 2012-13 squad, which returns eight letter winners from last season's NCAA Tournament team, including reigning Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year D.J. Byrd. Also participating will be the Boilermakers' consensus top-20 recruiting class, which includes Rapheal Davis Jay Simpson, Ronnie Johnson and A.J. Hammons.

“I'm excited for our fans to get an early look at our current team,” Painter said. “And I'm equally excited to honor our former players and get them back in Mackey Arena.”

Tickets for the games will be priced at $10 for the lower level (reserved) and $5 for the upper level (general admission). A limited number of free tickets (one per student) will be available to Purdue students in the normal student sections.

Premium seat holders for men's basketball can purchase their normal seat ticket locations from June 18 to 20. All John Purdue Club members can begin purchasing tickets on June 21, with a priority deadline of July 3. Seating assignments will be made by using the John Purdue Club priority points system.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on July 9.
