MARKLE — A Fort Wayne man riding a motorcycle northbound on Interstate 69 in northeast Indiana died after striking a deer.

Huntington County Coroner Phil Zahm says 52-year-old Patrick Harris died of blunt force trauma to the head. Zahm says Harris was not wearing a helmet.

Police in Markle, about 25 miles southwest of Fort Wayne, say Harris was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting the deer about 11:23 p.m. Thursday while headed north on I-69. Harris was pronounced dead at the scene.
