Columbia City grad earns high marks for Purdue

Eber named All-American

Friday, June 8, 2012 - 4:16 am

Leah Eber finished her Purdue University track and field career with an all-America performance in the long jump Thursday night in Des Moines, Iowa at the NCAA Championships. The Columbia City graduate finished ninth with a leap of 20-feet-8 inches.

It was the second all-America honor for Eber. She placed third this past March at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Next up for Eber is the 2012 United States Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. later this month.

Also competing Thursday in Des Moines was Indiana University's Andy Bayer. The Leo graduate placed second in his heat of the 1,500-meter run and will advance to Saturday's finals. He ran a time of 3-minutes, 39.95 seconds. The time qualifies him for The Olympic Trials as well.

Competing in the pole vault today at the NCAA Championships will be Virginia Tech's Hunter Hall (Homestead) and Notre Dame's Kevin Schipper (Bishop Dwenger).
