HARTFORD CITY — Two people accused of staging a traffic accident that included two women being flown by helicopter to hospitals in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne for treatment have been charged with felony insurance fraud.

They also are charged with misdemeanor counts of false informing and criminal recklessness. The Star Press of Muncie reports that authorities were suspicious because two of those involved who lived together in Marion were in different cars, and because one car was determined to be stationary at the time of the crash at a rural intersection a few miles outside Hartford City.

Court documents say one woman told Blackford County sheriff's investigators that the people involved agreed to stage the accident to collect insurance. The woman says another woman was going about 40 mph when the crash happened.
