A Columbia City woman recently competed in an international swimming meet and fared quite well.
Susan Rothert Meyers competed in the 14th Fina World Masters Championships 2012 in Riccione, Italy recently and finished in the top three in her events in the 70-74 age group.
In the 400-meter IM, Rothert Meyers placed 3rd, and then did the same in the 200-meter IM.
Her best finish was a second place effort in the 100-meter fly.
In each of the three events, she was the highest finishing American.
She now competes for the Indy Aquatic Masters team, which is based out of Indianapolis.
Rothert Meyers is a graduate of South Side High School in Fort Wayne in 1959. She was a well-known diver during high school and while at Purdue University, she was a diver then switched to Synchronized Swimming.
She started competing in Masters swimming approximately 14 years ago when her son Christopher was in high school and swimming for Columbia City.
Rothert Meyers has been ranked in the top 10 in her age group many of those years.
She has been a swimming instructor at South Side, Summit and the YMCA and coached one year for Bishop Dwenger High School. She received South Side High School Distinguished Alumni Award for her swimming accomplishments.
