With the Weigand Construction Duck Race set for June 23, SCAN is getting quacking.
The plastic ducks have been washed, and volunteers at the office, 500 W. Main St., have put numbers on them. Then the colorful critters are tossed into bins, tready to be dropped by a crane into the St. Joseph River.
The first 25 ducks across the finish line bring prizes, with $5,000 and $1,000 cash for the first two.
Staff hope to make $153,000 for agency's child abuse-prevention programs, said Kyle Dever, SCAN events manager. As of Thursday morning, they'd collected $105,003.
