ANDERSON — Anderson police say a cleaning crew has discovered the decaying remains of a woman in a home.

Sgt. Freddie Tevis tells The Herald Bulletin, WISH-TV and WRTV-TV that the woman was found under a blanket Thursday afternoon and appeared to have died months ago.

Neighbors tell WISH a woman in her 50s who lived in the house had not been seen since December.

Tevis says members of the crew initially thought the body was a large doll.

The homeowner, who lives in California, hired the cleaning crew to work on the house so he could lease it out.

The cause of death is unknown pending an investigation by the Madison County coroner scheduled for Friday. Police say it does not appear the woman died from foul play.
