The NCAA has changed its rules to allow Division I men's basketball coaches to send unlimited texts and make unlimited calls to recruits who have finished their sophomore years.
If this rule had been in place a few years back, Kelvin Sampson might still be the Indiana University coach. Of course, the NCAA would have had to relax its rules about players being required to attend and pass classes, too.
Junior's achievement
Dale Earnhardt Jr. won a NASCAR race Sunday for the first time in four years. After the race, runner-up Tony Stewart told reporters, “It's not a national holiday, guys.”
This was news to Father's Day celebrants everywhere and to those who feel it's a national holiday anytime someone beats Stewart.
Hoops ahoy!
Three college men's basketball games will be played on naval ships this coming season. Florida plays Georgetown off the coast of Jacksonville, Fla., Marquette plays Ohio State off the coast of Charleston, S.C., and Syracuse plays San Diego State off the coast of San Diego.
Not to be outdone, IPFW is looking into playing Valpo off the coast of the Maumee River.
At the movies
Tim Tebow said during a Father's Day speech in San Diego that he was inspired by his father's use of the movie “Braveheart” as a teaching tool. If Tebow plays well during Jets training camp, Mark Sanchez might draw inspiration from the movie, “The Waterboy.”
A horse is a horse
A group including New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees claimed a race horse Sunday that was previously part-owned by Los Angeles Lakers players Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. So, once again, the Saints find a way to own the colts.
Non-musical interlude
San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker suffered a scratched cornea when he was part of a New York City nightclub brawl with his friend, singer Chris Brown, and members of Drake's entourage. Bottles were broken and presumably something hip-hopped into Parker's eye.
So that settles that
College basketball rivals Xavier and Cincinnati will hold their annual game on a neutral court in Cincinnati as the result of a brawl at the end of the game at Xavier last season. This should solve any problems because fights can't possibly break out on neutral courts due to their inherent neutrality.
