State Sen. David Long, R-Fort Wayne, confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Gov. Mitch Daniels will become president of Purdue University after his term expires in January.
"He just called me about half an hour ago, and he said it was true. So there you go," Long told a crowd of supporters at a campaign kick-off event Wednesday at his headquarters.
Daniels had declined to discuss news reports this week that he had been offered the job. The two-term Republican governor is term-limited from seeking another term.
When speaking to supporters, Long referred to Daniels as the next president of Purdue. He then told them about the phone call from Daniels.
