Laredo Restaurant on Broadway robbed by 2 armed men

Wednesday, June 20, 2012 - 3:24 pm

Fort Wayne Police are searching for two men who reported robbed Laredo Restaurant, 1854 Broadway, on Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to the restaurant on a report of a possible armed robbery taking place, according to a news release. As an officer arrived in the area, he saw two men running from the restaurant in different directions. The officer chased one man on foot but eventually lost sight of him. Police later searched the area and tried to track a suspect with a dog, but police couldn't find either of the reported robbers.

Investigators believe the robbers entered the restaurant and demanded cash from the register, according to the news release. One was reportedly armed with a handgun, the other with a stun gun. Both perpetrators ran off, and it was reported that as they were fleeing, the two were shedding pieces of clothing. The clothing was found by officers searching for the men, along with other evidence – a roll of coins taken from the register and a handbag stolen from one of the restaurant's employees.

Investigators continue to interview witnesses, and crime scene technicians are processing the scene for possible evidence inside the restaurant.

No one was reported injured in the robbery. Fort Wayne Police and Allen County Prosecutor's Office are continuing to investigate.
