Decatur creates tie to Chinese city

Saturday, June 23, 2012 - 6:38 am

Decatur in Adams County has linked up with a sister city in Jiaojiang (Zhejiang Province) in China as a result of a northeast Indiana delegation's recent three-day trade mission to the Asian country.

The relationship has the potential for at least one new economic development project in northeast Indiana, according to a news release from the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership.

The delegation, led by Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman, included Mayor John Schultz from Decatur; Larry Macklin, executive director of the Adams County Economic Development Corp.; and John Sampson, president and CEO of the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership.

"We came away with great opportunities for Decatur, Adams County and northeast Indiana," Macklin said in the statement. "The leaders of Zhejiang Province were prepared for each and every stop we made. This area of China is ready to work with northeast Indiana and us."

The Adams County delegates plan to develop a formal relationship with a Jiajiang sister school.
