Sunday, June 24, 2012 - 5:51 am

The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating the Saturday evening shooting of a man after a foot pursuit where shots were exchanged with an officer.

Officers were dispatched to the area of South Hanna Street and East Leith Street around 9 p.m. to investigate reports of a shooting, according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Police Department. Upon arrival, officers and paramedics found a man who had an apparent gunshot wound, and paramedics provided aid to the man before transporting him to a local hospital in serious condition, the release said.

The release said an FWPD officer was originally conducting a traffic stop of a man riding a moped at the corner of South Hanna and East Leith when a foot pursuit took place and shots were allegedly fired, with the man feeling from the scene being shot. A gun was found at the scene, according to the release.

Neither the man's identity who was shot nor the identity of the officer who fired was not released. The incident is being investigated by the police department and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
