The Fort Wayne AIDS Task Force is reminding the public that June 27 is National HIV Testing Day.
The National Association of People with AIDS started National HIV Testing Day in 1995. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that 250,000 of the 1 million people with HIV/AIDS in the United States are unaware of their status.
Early HIV diagnosis is critical so that people who are infected can fully benefit from available life-saving treatments. Forty-four percent of people with HIV are not diagnosed until they already have developed AIDS.
For more Information about local testing, contact Fort Wayne-Allen County Health Department at (260) 449-7404 or Fort Wayne AIDS Task Force at (260) 744-1144.
