INDIANAPOLIS — The government says Indiana seniors and people with disabilities in the Medicare "doughnut hole" coverage gap have saved $93.5 million on prescription drugs since 2010 under the federal health care overhaul.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services says that includes Indiana savings of $10 million through the first five months of this year.
The agency released the data Monday as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares its widely anticipated ruling on the health care law that many oppose.
Under the law, Medicare paid a $250 doughnut hole prescription rebate in 2010. Last year, it cut half the cost of certain brand name drugs and, for generics, gave 7 percent discounts last year and 14 percent this year. If upheld, discounts for both types of prescriptions keep growing each year.
