Fort Wayne news anchor charged with DUI

Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 1:52 pm

In her second brush with the law, Indiana's NewsCenter morning anchor Mary Collins Frank was jailed Tuesday for allegedly driving drunk, according to Allen County court records.

As of midday Wednesday, her photograph and a biographical sketch had disappeared from the Indiana's News Center website.

Frank was charged with a felony count of operating while intoxicated and having a prior conviction for the same offense. In 2009, she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor OWI charge.

According to court papers, Frank's blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.14 percent, nearly twice the legal limit. She refused an initial breath test by police and was described as angry, argumentative and uncooperative in the papers.

Frank goes on air as Mary Collins for INC's weekday morning news broadcast.

It was unclear Tuesday how Frank's second alcohol-related arrest in less than three years would affect her TV career. INC President and General Manager Jerry Giesler did not immediately return a call seeking comment Wednesday morning.

Police got a call from a local Walgreen's store just before 3:30 p.m. reporting that Frank smelled strongly of alcohol, and another witness saw her driving, the court papers said.

According to the papers, police found a partially drunk bottle of wine in Frank's car. They took her to the Allen County Lockup, where she submitted to a mandatory breath test, the papers said.

Frank was released from jail on $2,500 bail and was scheduled to appear in court 9 a.m. Wednesday for her initial hearing, according to online court records.
