FISHERS — A semitrailer overturned on Interstate 69 near Indianapolis and blocked all southbound traffic for several hours.

The state Department of Transportation says the crash occurred Wednesday afternoon in Fishers. Police say the truck was traveling on the shoulder of the interstate when it suddenly swerved to avoid a concrete barrier, went out of control and ended up on its side.

Fishers Fire Department spokesman Ron Lipps says the crash sparked a grass fire. Drivers were being advised drivers to avoid the area.

Lipps says the driver of the truck refused medical treatment. He says the fire had been extinguished by Wednesday evening.

Indiana State Police say the roadway had reopened by 11 p.m. It was closed for about five hours.
