A tough day in Fort Wayne just got worse for those who are without electricity.
In addition to cleaning up storm damage from trees and branches brought down by a powerful storm in the afternoon, a news release from Indiana Michigan Power indicates that widespread power outages in the region might leave some consumers without electricity until midnight Wednesday.
The news release says that around 107,000 consumers in the region suffered some degree of power loss, including 80,000 customers in Fort Wayne. I&M, according to the release, is bringing in crews from outside the region to assist in power restoration.
According to I&M, these are preliminary estimates for restoration of service:
*Elkhart and surrounding area: midnight Saturday
*South Bend and surrounding area: midnight Sunday
*Muncie, Marion and east central Indiana: midnight Monday
*Fort Wayne and surrounding area: midnight Wednesday
The Red Cross of Northeast Indiana has opened a shelter at the First Assembly of God, 1400 W. Washington Center Road. Those in need should use Door #5 to enter and register.
Those who come should bring a pillow, sleeping bag, personal hygiene items and any personal medications. The Red Cross will also have volunteers on hand to assist those displaced by the storm.
