Donate for the troops
Operation U.S. Troop Support will collect donations of items needed by U.S. troops and cash donations to help with shipping costs during an event 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday and Wednesday at Gander Mountain, 6043 Lima Road.
Items needed by troops include nonperishable snacks, sun block, lip balm, toiletries, pre-paid phone cards, puzzle books, board games, wool socks, DVD movies, and cards and letters of support. For a more detailed list of needed items, go to www.operationustroopsupport.org.
Ouabache turns 50
Ouabache State Park, 4930 E. Indiana 201 near Bluffton, will celebrate its 50th anniversary today through July 8 with special activities.
Highlights include:
•Sunday: Bald eagle presentation with young live bird, 1 p.m.; anniversary celebration with refreshments and sharing of park history, 2:30 p.m.
•Tuesday: Program in screech owls, 7 p.m.
•Wednesday: July 4th scavenger hunt, 1 p.m.
•Friday: Presentation on Wells County resident Charles C. Deam, Indiana's first state forester and a pioneering botanist.
•July 7: Bicycle decorating, 6:15 p.m.; Smokey the Bear Parade, 6:45 p.m.; Smokey's Birthday Bash, 7 p.m.
•July 8: Learn about owl calls and make one to take home, 11:30 a.m.
