You can’t say you didn’t see this coming:
All Van Halen concerts postponed in mid-May now have been canceled, including a July 31 show at Memorial Coliseum, Rolling Stone magazine reported today on its website, www.rollingstone.com.
Memorial Coliseum officials received word about the cancellation Friday and were preparing to send out an announcement, but the fierce storm that blew through the area knocked out power, Nathan Dennison, coliseum coordinator of marketing and media services, said today.
Dennison sent out the cancellation announcement shortly after noon today.
People who bought tickets to the Memorial Coliseum concert through Ticketmaster, either online or by phone, received an automatic refund today to their credit card, Dennison said.
People who bought tickets at the Coliseum box office will have to return to the box office to get their refund, he said. Only about 300 people who bought tickets at the Coliseum box office have yet to seek their refund.
The local concert was among more than 30 the legendary rock group postponed in mid-May, saying they would only play through a show June 26 at New Orleans. At the time, sources told Rolling Stone magazine the band’s members were fighting among themselves.
The concert was expected to be one of the biggest of the year at the Coliseum. Mayor Tom Henry even was prepared to proclaim July 31 as Van Halen Day in Fort Wayne.
