On Saturday, Roanoke's farmers market opens for the season. It will be 8 a.m.-noon every Saturday through Sept. 11 on Main Street, which is blocked off to traffic and lined with market carts filled with fresh produce and unique goods.
Vendors will change throughout the summer as different vegetables and fruits become available. Each week, there is also a bake sale fundraiser, and some vendors sell locally made crafts. The market features local entertainment and local pottery, painting and wood carvings. The News-Sentinel's food columnist, Laura Wilson, will have goodies for sale from her Roanoke business, La Dolce Vita.
Auburn Deli reopens
Owner Rex Carroll has moved the Auburn Deli from its former location on Auburn's west side to the upstairs of the historic Sixth and Main Street building in downtown Auburn (former location of The Bread Basket).
Featured menu items are named after classic cars, and an area of the restaurant is set up as an Internet café, complete with couches.
The Auburn Deli serves hot grilled sandwiches, homemade pasta salads, soups, salads and freshly baked Amish pies, desserts and cookies. Customers can dine in or carry out.
Carroll is considering serving breakfast at the restaurant. For the time being, the Auburn Deli is open 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It's at 115 N. Main St. On the web: www.theauburndeli.com.
Satek celebrates
Congratulations to Satek Winery in Fremont, which is celebrating its 11th anniversary now through Sunday. As a special gift, Satek is giving away a 15-ounce stemless wine glass with the Satek logo with each two-bottle wine purchase.
Satek also will release the new vintage of its DeChaunac, a dry red wine made from grapes grown on the original Lake James vineyard on Kreibaum Bay. It's one of the first four varieties released on the winery's opening day 11 years ago.
Satek is open every day, including the Fourth of July, with free wine tasting 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The address is 6208 N. Van Guilder Road, Fremont.

I have some additional information about the gluten-free bakery, Good Grains, which has just opened in Roanoke. The bakery's hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays. The address is 4223 Station Road, Unit A, Roanoke.
