INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police have arrested a 40-year-old man in the unsolved 1989 slaying of a teenage girl based on a palm print found at the crime scene.
Marion County prosecutors announced Tuesday that Rodney Denk was arrested Monday on a murder charge in the death of 16-year-old Amy Weidner. He was being held without bond pending a Thursday initial hearing.
Weidner had been beaten, sexually assaulted and strangled in her Indianapolis home, where investigators obtained a palm print from a wall.
Prosecutor Terry Curry tells WISH-TV that a palm print taken from Denk after a 1997 arrest was found to match the one found at Weidner's home.
Prosecutors say Denk was a friend of Weidner's family at the time of her death. Investigators reopened the unsolved case last year.
