Now is not the time for summer relaxation on the part of the IPFW men’s golf squad.
Several members of the Mastodon program have played well in various tournaments throughout this off-season.
"I am so proud of all these accomplishments," IPFW coach Billy King said in a release. “This summer’s successes are a true indicator of where this program is at and where it is headed.”
IPFW senior Drew Imel recently took second at the Indiana PGA Monticello Open. The Norwell High School graduate shot a four-under par 68 in the one-round event.
Mastodon sophomore Jake Groninger also earned a recent second place finish. Competing at the Indiana Golf Association (IGA) Public Links Championship, the Pendleton Heights High School alum stroked a two-round score of 137, which was seven-under par and just a lone stroke off of the tournament title.
Incoming IPFW freshmen Drake Devereaux and Oliver Gibson also have performed well.
Devereux shot a two-round score of 150 (six over par) to win the 15-18 category at the recent Age Group Championship at the Indiana National Golf Club.
At the same event, recent Carroll High School graduate Gibson placed fifth overall.
“The work ethic is at an all-time high with our entire team competing in the best events possible in the off-season,” King said.
